Flashback: “Talent” for writing

I can't be the only one who only discovers their "talents" later in life (in their twenties, that is). I might have known when I was younger, but I only now dare to truly call it a "talent," and actually, I still don't really dare. I don't think it's that special, but apparently not everyone can write as easily as I can, like this blog post, so to speak... So then you can call it a talent, right? In any case, I only started discovering my talents and strengths later in life (after 25 ), what makes me so special. I don't think I'm the only one, and I'm not 100% sure yet, but I think I'm well on my way at 27. Imagine... you have to choose what career you want to pursue when you're 16 or 18 , and I only figured out how I want to live my life about 10 years later! I'll explain more about my other "talents" later, but for now, let's talk about that "writing talent." 😉

I think I discovered I could call it a talent when I started writing for a local newspaper in my town—I was 26 at the time. Well, I actually discovered it when I had to write content for the webshop at my previous job, but that's a different type of writing. Writing for the magazine, I discovered that the "talent" was much broader, and I really started to believe in it. I once read that they were looking for correspondents, and that sounded interesting—quite exciting! Once I had a conversation with someone from the organization, it felt good. I could just stop if it wasn't for me (or if I wasn't good at it at all), so that reassured me. I choose what I write about, but I prefer to write about volunteers, ambitious young people, or people who have achieved something great or have a positive outlook on life. My first article was also about a couple who were setting up a clothing bank in the region. The best part, I think, was that they'd been through enough hardship themselves, and yet, despite that, decided to do something that wouldn't benefit them. People like that really touch me and I find it heartwarming. I think I prefer to write to inspire people. I hope to do that a little with this blog: share my experiences so you don't feel alone, and offer some tips based on those experiences that others can use.
